Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP1) is a signal peptide that is secreted from enteroendocrine cells of the lower part of the intestine. In the gut, GLP1 is rapidly inactivated by enzymes; thus, how intestinal GLP1 exerts effects on distant organs was unclear. A new study in Cell now reports that intestinal GLP1 acts on an inter-organ neural circuit that induces appetite suppression.
