Cognitive research has demonstrated that emotion affects nearly all aspects of cognition, including attention, learning and memory, reasoning, and problem-solving. It is well-established that emotional experiences/stimuli are remembered more accurately and vividly and that these memories appear to be more durable over time. As educational approaches are shifting away from traditional face-to-face learning environments and towards computer-based educational technologies and online course offerings, this knowledge should be carefully considered in course design to improve learning and long-term material retention.
